I’ve just redesigned my fine art website erikathorpe.com. It is built within a blog framework so that I can update it on the fly and keep updates on upcoming art shows and events. From now on this will be the blog I utilize for all things art and exhibit related.

FRUIT OF THE SOUL 2008 Sat Sep. 6th @ 6:30PM

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

(The following release provided by Fruit of the Soul)

SAN DIEGO, Calif., Sept. 6, 2008—”Did you know that the average age of a homeless person in San Diego is NINE YEARS OLD? Today, THERE ARE MORE THAN 2,200 HOMELESS CHILDREN in San Diego and more than 300,000 nationwide. Together, we can change that. It’s a tough reality that not all kids are given the same opportunities. With the support of local musicians and some of San Diego’s best restaurants, Niamh Scott Productions & Kelly Orange will host the third annual Fruit of the Soul on Sept. 6. Proceeds for this year’s event go to the Monarch School and A Reason To Survive (ARTS).

The Monarch School is a non-profit organization, which works closely with the community and the San Diego County Office of Education to help our homeless youth. They provide an accredited education to homeless and at-risk kids while caring for basic needs such as healthcare, food, clothing and personal hygiene. The ARTS Program is a non-profit organization built on the foundation that the arts heal, inspire and empower. Artists, musicians, poets and more teach kids techniques and concepts so they can explore their creativity, express themselves and create something of themselves. It is through the arts that the program helps children who are facing life challenges. Your help will make a difference in the lives of children who live in our community.

Join us at this year’s event in support of these phenomenal organizations! Live performances and artist displays will run the fundraiser from 6:30 p.m. - 11 p.m. (or so), at the Specialty Produce Warehouse, located at 1929 Hancock St. Tickets are $40 and available online at www.fruitofthesoul.org or at the door. Your ticket includes entertainment, drinks and delicious edibles. The event is open to those 18 and older.

The evening will include: a silent auction; fashion from local designers; art trucks, organized by Kelly Orange & Janelle Carter, with prints and paintings by local artists, including aspiring young artists from ARTS & exclusive artists from …Lost Enterprises; community speaker, Sarita Fuentes, Principal/CEO of the Monarch School and Matt D’Arrigo, Executive Director, A Reason to Survive (ARTS); and performances by local musicians, including Gilbert Castellanos, Bushwalla, Lisa Campbell Band w/ special guest, and The Monarch School Steel Drum Band!

Fresh produce from Specialty Produce and fine food from Bleu Boheme, Cowboy Star, Dish, Hash House A Go Go, Jsix, Jake’s Del Mar, Market Restaurant & Bar, Kensington Grill, Stingaree, The Pearl and more will be available from 6:30 p.m. until it’s all gone. There will be a cocktail bar sponsored by the Tractor Room, beer from Trumer Pilsner and Palm Breweries, and wine donated by local distributors.

Participating organizers, artists, musicians and speakers are available for interviews.

Fruit of the Soul
An annual fundraiser to support the preservation of music, art & sustainable education in San Diego. We believe that music, art and nutrition ARE the fruit of our souls & the preservation of such in our educational system is necessary for our youth’s left and right brain creativity and growth.

At Fruit of the Soul, we seek out local organizations working for causes we believe in, as well as those in need of community support. We also enjoy a good party! Join the two and you have an amazing event with passion for the cause and movers and shakers for the party!

WTF!

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Yes I’ve been neglecting my blog again, and never finished posting all my travel photos. I suck.. I’ve just been so busy. My usual day starts at around 5 AM. I eat breakfast, drink 2 cups of tea, than by 6AM I run 4-5 miles along the beach. Then I get dressed for work, pack my lunch then bike 7.6 miles to my office. After work depending on what day it is, I either bike back home and paint paint paint if I don’t have an (illustration or logo job waiting for me that is) or I head to the gym for yoga or weight training for about an hour and a half. So when I say I don’t have time I really don’t. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to fiddle around with blogs. With that said, I think I’ll just be using this blog for various updates on upcoming shows, and as my travel blog.

My latest update is this…..Lot’s of stuff is happening in the studio…which means inevitably that a show will soon follow, probably within the next couple of months (that’s the best I can do given my schedule). Updates on location and and time will be given as soon as I arrive closer to completion of my latest projects. That’s all for now.

still busy

I’m getting ready to move into a new apartment. I’ll be closer to the beach and to work and to better bike paths and trails…so I’m quite happy….But I still have so much sorting and organizing to do. Will try to post more pictures of Mexico and such when I get settled.
